Highlights

Completely Remade The Dialogue System

The old dialogue system was too laggy and extremely unreliable, always causing problems for me. So I decided to rebuild it from scratch, meaning there's an entirely new dialogue system in the open beta version of the game.

Performance Overhaul

There weren't really any problems with performance before (besides the dialogue system), but now there definitely aren't.

Pause Menu

A quick way to return to the main menu, or just to catch your breath.

Speedrunning Timer

I wanted to add some replayability, so I added a timer in-game that shows your time for your playthrough at the end of the credits. Time starts when the store is first loaded, and ends as soon as the final objective is complete.

Reworked Theme Song

A new version of the Store theme song has been released, and has been updated in-game to match.

Graphical Overhaul

Many of the props and objects have been reworked to look nicer, some have been added, and a lot of art style changes were made to be more consistent with the overall theme.

Crosshair

The crosshair is now crispy.

  • Player grab distance reduced from 10m to 3m
  • Player jump distance reduced from 1.4m to 1m
  • Sprinting has been removed, walk speed is now the same as previous sprint speed

Programming

  • All scripts have been completely reworked or otherwise optimized
  • Cursor now automatically locks and hides when loading into the store
  • Version text now automatically updates with the game
Audio
  • Replaced old theme with new them

Graphics

  • Bag materials have been reworked

  • Credits and copyright moved to bottom left of main menu
  • Removed item scanner vertex animation
  • Crosshair is now crispy

Bug Fixes

  • Soda cans act strangly when picked up
  • Character rotates on dropping item
  • Soda cans too heavy
  • Strange pickup behavior near item detector (unable to pick up items near countertop)
  • Removed unnecessary raycast targets on main menu (buttons partially blocked by invisible objects)
  • Blurry icons (backend)
  • Able to submit chip bag before first talking to Entity
  • NRE on destruction of Entity
  • Update broken dialogue scripts (no longer applicable)
  • Bags not playing drop sound effects
  • Bags fly through objects at strange angles when thrown
  • Credits music does not pause with the game, and does not scale with time
