Version 1.3.0 Announcement - The Tutorial Update

Version 1.3.0 Announcement - The Tutorial Update

It's been about 3 months since the last major release of Announcer, so I think it's about time for an update on how the game is going and what's going to be added next.  The last update focused on first impressions as well as smoothing out the camera controls and overall making the game a more smooth and enjoyable experience. Before I get to the new tutorial that will be added, I want to discuss something I mentioned previously in the "Version 1.2.0 Release" announcement.

In the previous announcement, I talked a bit about a save progression system being added and some further features utilizing it. For now, this system has been put on hold for an indefinite amount of time while I figure out what the game really needs.

So let's get into the main feature of the next major update - a new tutorial, major bug fixes, and some quality-of-life improvements. I realize that this may not be the most exciting update for those who have already played Announcer, but I hope that this change will greatly increase the accessibility for those who would like to try it.

Tutorial

So the main focus of the Tutorial Update is obviously the tutorial. I don't think I need to go much into detail for this addition as I feel it is pretty self-explanatory. The tutorial will be significantly more interactive than the current piece of paper that you get to read for about 30 seconds at the beginning of the prototype and should help to actually teach new players how to play the game rather than just hope they read the manual.

Cheat Sheet Rework

The cheat sheet has been streamlined, and most of the information contained within it has been moved to the tutorial so that it is much clearer what the important information on the page is.

Balance

  • Attacker objectives have been reworked to increase the chance that attackers win significantly

Quality of Life

  • Added return to main menu button on defeat screen

Bug Fixes

  • Game is immediately won when match time runs out in certain circumstances
  • Incorrect tutorial message on the main monitor
  • Visual indicators for some progress bars (such as match timers and objectives) do not become fully empty when they are at 0

Backend

  • Scene loading has been optimized for faster development in the future
  • Minor optimization for attacker objective progression
  • Save system disabled

Version 1.3.0 is not yet released, but you can access this version in the future as well as the current version 1.2.0 if you donate $ 1.00 USD or more!

The current release date is late November.
